At the film's start, great excitement reins in the household of the young couple, Hercules Maier and his wife, because all are awaiting the stork's arrival.

The main person is Maier's mother-in-law who commands in the household and strongly interferes between the young marriage partners.

But, as often occurs in a marriage, tiny occurrences have important consequences.

Soon, the loving husband is completely pushed into the background as everything revolves around the "little darling" who, unconsciouslySoon, the loving husband is completely pushed into the background as everything revolves around the "little darling" who, unconsciously,  controls the entire family. Suddenly, nothing is good enough anymore. The whole household is turned topsy-turvy.

Like a Master Sergeant, the good mother-in-law acts in the best interests of her daughter and, while the ladies buy "absolutely essential" things, the poor husband sits at home, oppressed by so much love, and takes care of his little daughter. Hercules Hercules even has to go out for meals now, because the ladies no longer have any time left over for cooking.

But what won't a man do out of love? Above all he must earn money.

The couple's happiness soon begins to fade because, where previously Hercules spent evenings at home, now he must go out to work, which displeases his wife.

One day, as his wife accompanies him to his place of work (in desperation he has accepted a job as busboy), One day, as his wife accompanies him to his place of work (in desperation he has accepted a job as busboy), an unhappy set of circumstances leads to their break-up.

When Hercules returns home, he finds the house empty When Hercules returns home, he finds the house empty and, as a result of the separation from his wife and child, enters a state of complete breakdown and spirals into depression.

But once again, coincidence plays an important role in his life.

As an honest man, he receives a big reward for returning something that he finds. Now, had  everything gone without a hitch, his financial problems would have been over.

But, pursued by bad luck, he becomes sort of celebrity, which should have been a source of great happiness for him. He begins a new life. Thinking of his child, he chooses a new profession that pleases and satisfies him. In his home there is once again happiness and prosperity.

In the same house, totally withdrawn, Mrs. Maria Maier is totally dedicated to raising her daughter. She doesn't imagine that her husband lives nearby. But one day the two of them happen to see each other unexpectedly.

Hercules who is deeply attached to his family and loves them dearly, tries to approach his wife again. The child that unconsciously led to the couple's breakup now becomes the go-between between the two parents.
